TOPIC: 
Short-Range Medical Device Connectivity

TOPIC DESCRIPTION: All medical devices going forward are now connected.  In this meeting we will discuss the driving forces and explore the available options, focusing on short-range wireless technologies that enable this connectivity.  The current leading options and their attributes and regulatory implications will be presented.
 

SPEAKER: Bill Saltzstein, Code Blue Communications, Inc.  


SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY: Bill Saltzstein founded Code Blue Communications to use his experience and expertise to help wireless and medical device companies,  in addition to working on his own non-medical products for Bluetooth low energy appcessories at Cocoanutmanor, LLC. 
Prior to rejoining Code Blue in 2013, he spent 3 years as the Worldwide Medical Business Development Director and US Sales Manager for connectBlue’s US operation, specializing in healthcare for their Bluetooth and WLAN modular products. 
Bill is a wireless medical expert at Code Blue Communications, founded in 2000 with the aim to bring Bluetooth wireless technology to the medical and industrial markets. Bill provides consulting services to large and small medical device companies in the areas of system architecture, program management, technology, and product development for wireless medical devices.
 
In 2006, Bill took two years away from Code Blue to lead the development of innovative home safety technology and products at LifeTone Safety (recently introduced in the Kidde products), and again for a year in 2009 to work as Vice President of Engineering at Pyng Medical, a trauma products company. 
 
Before founding Code Blue, Bill served as Director of Advanced Development at Medtronic Physio-Control in Redmond, Washington. Prior to joining Physio-Control, he led product development teams at Instromedix and Hewlett-Packard developing both diagnostic and interventional cardiology equipment for emergency medicine and hospital customers. 
Bill began his professional career with Hewlett-Packard’s calculator design teams as an project engineer and integrated circuit designer. 
Bill holds 24 patents associated with battery-powered and portable medical devices, communications and other technologies. His active professional memberships include AAMI, IEEE, and Bluetooth SIG. Bill’s academic career includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from University of Rochester, and graduate courses in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from several universities. 
Bill is an avid photographer, as well as a partner in Cinq Cellars, a boutique winery featuring the best in Washington State wines.
