WEBINAR - Combating Antimicrobial Resistance Globally
About this event
TOPIC: Antimicrobial Resistance
TOPIC DESCRIPTION: Antimicrobial resistance is a complex global crisis that requires multifaceted and all-hands-on-deck solutions, global investments, and further research.
SPEAKER: Olusegun O. Soge, SO
SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY: Dr. Olusegun (S.O.) Soge is an Associate Professor of Global Health and Medicine, and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, as well as the Director for the Neisseria Reference Laboratory and the Chlamydia Research Laboratory in the Center for AIDS and STD at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA.
For over 21 years, his research at UW has focused on diagnostics for sexually transmitted pathogens, characterization of the mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in a wide range of clinically important bacteria, and in vitro evaluation of novel antimicrobial compounds and fungal/plant extracts against multidrug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Dr. Soge has robust longstanding collaborations with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and domestic and international investigators on N. gonorrhoeae AMR surveillance, characterization of the mechanisms of AMR in N. gonorrhoeae, and clinical trials for novel gonorrhea treatments.
His laboratory is the only academic Gonococcal Isolate Surveillance Project (GISP) laboratory participating in the expansion of US laboratory capacity for culture-based N. gonorrhoeae antimicrobial susceptibility testing and whole genome sequencing through the CDC's Antibiotic Resistance Laboratory Network.
